The Gospel Soul Notes

GUSTAVSBURG - In front of the Burg Lichtspiele, everything is festively decorated and in good spirits, the first guests enter the hall in anticipation of the singer, who already gave a big break last year with her band. Pamela O'Neal and the "Gospel Soul Notes" are on the program. The concert in the series "Light in the City" is sold out. Christmas time is just gospel time. But what was required exceeded all expectations. And those who may not have been so gospel-affine have been doubly surprised because these people are just making great music, and even their angels in heaven are just dreaming of their voices.

HOCHHEIM - (chb) - Sunday had a very special treat for friends of good music: Pamela O'Neal and "The Gospel Soul Notes" not only brought the enthusiastic audience closer to the "Old Time Gospel" in the Kurfürstendaal. There is no trace of nervousness or stage fright. In addition, the gold-throats, who were born in America and stationed in Wiesbaden, are far too convinced of their task of bringing the gospel into the world. Again and again she starts in the middle of a conversation to sing individual song lines. Not only because she is a passionate musician, but also because she can feel the lyrics of some well-known gospel songs like "This Little Light of Mine" or "Down by the Riverside" better than most. The roots of the gospel are Spirituals, also known as African-American Spirituals. They are a Christian song genre that originated in the USA with the beginning of slavery in the 17th century. This cheerful music tells of the life of beaten, wounded and yearning slaves.

BURG-HOHENSTEIN - This evening, a Hohenstein feels a bit like the "navel of the world". This is how Rixa Kroehl describes how she brought the international feeling to the Protestant church of Burg-Hohenstein and thus initiated something very special. The "Gospel Soul Notes", consisting of Five singers and piano player, exchange the big stage against the small church for once. Choir director Pamela O'Neal, a native of California, has performed with such greats as Ray Charles or Mariah Carey. No wonder then that church council Christian Lehmann is almost a bit nervous, the crowd could be too big. But the more visitors, the more donations can be hoped for the urgently needed renovation of the church roof. Already in two places it is leaking, unfortunate black streaks betrayed, where the water has made its way one or the other time his way
